Spring/Summer Palette Challenge

Hello!  Long time, no blog!  Well, it's been a bit busy around here, but I do have some new pieces  to share with you....  soon.  Recently I've been obsessing over the Colette Spring/Summer Palette Challenge.  Here's what I've come up with:

Right now I'm working on the grey tweed skirt.  It's not the most interesting make, but I know it will be a good working part of my wardrobe.  I'm really into pastelles right now (particularly lavenders and purples.... obviously).   I feel so girly looking at these colors!  Here's hoping I get through all these pieces- it seems a bit overzealous of me, but aim high I always say!

My First Completed Knitting Project

Hiya!  Today I wanted to share my first completed knitting project.  I have been wanted to learn to knit for a year or so now, and while I kinda get the general concept, it's just eluded me.  I think it's because it moves so slowly.  Crocheting is a bit easier, but I still get a little frustrated with the amount of time it takes.

I used this "pattern", and used three strands of seafoam green, super chunky yarn.  It's very toasty for my morning duty (I get to open car doors for kids coming to school for half and hour,  but that's a different post all together!).    Anyways, here it is!

Please excuse the bad pics...  It was 6 am, what can I say?  I'll be honest and say that it took a lot of ego-bashing to get to the point where I would even try such an easy and simple knitting project.  I really wanted to make a cardigan, but it didn't work out.  I always seem to want to jump into things way too quickly instead of easing into them and learning the process.  Ah well.   Hopefully my next project will be a bit more exciting!

Patterns I want

Ok, so I'll admit that I am a bit of a pattern horder.  I have an enormous box full of patterns that I haven't used yet (I've really only been sewing for a year now), but I just can't resist them!  Especially when they are only a dollar or two.  I told myself I wouldn't buy anymore patterns, but I just can't help it.  Here are the patterns I am currently crazy about:

I have wanted this pattern for a while now.  I just finished working on Colette's Begniet, and I loved it!  I'll post it soon, I promise.  Anyways, I just ordered this pattern along with an Anna Maria Horner print (the name is LouLou Thi Summer Totem Strudel, what a mouthful!) and an orange poplin for the accent.  I have seen this pattern made in a print and I really liked it, but I'm starting to doubt myself.  Maybe I should have started with solids?

I'm not usually a fan of burnout knits, but this would look really cute in one like this baby blue floral from fabric.com (plus it's only $6 a yard!).  I saw this pattern on patternreview.com's  Best Patterns of 2011 list.  I have been waiting for this list for a while now...  I love to look through their best pattern lists for new stuff.

So cute!  And I love the idea of this little white and black polka dot.  I really like the top option of this pattern, too.  I should probably be focusing more on separates, but I really love dresses.

Who knows?  Maybe I'll go ahead and bite the bullet and get these patterns (and fabric, since I've spent so much time matching them up, now).  They would all make cute spring outfits!  I'll be sure to post about them if I do.

Why, Hello there!

Hi!  Ok, this is not my first attempt at a blog.  Not by a long shot.  But this time I'm going to try to keep at it.  Maybe if I don't try so hard, it'll happen a bit more naturally.  So don't expect too many posts right away (not that I'm expecting there to be too many people reading this for now).

Let me introduce myself to start off.  I am an elementary music teacher and mother of two.  I LOVE learning new things.  I finished my Master's Degree just a few years after my Bachelor's (and while teaching, too!), and just got my National Board Certification. I love technology and try to incorporate that into my teaching as often as possible, and I love multicultural music also.  All this keeps me pretty busy, but I have also been tinkering in some crafty things, mostly sewing.  I tried my hand at cake decorating, and I really enjoy party-planning (although really, I don't know enough people to get into that too much-I'm pretty much a hermit).  I also have played around with scrapbooking type stuff (card-making, too). Oh!  And photography, too!  I would love to learn to take some purty pictures.  :)   Whew. It's all too much!  But I find that if I can't keep my mind running at a thousand miles an hour I just get bored, so here I am.

I plan to use this blog to document the different things I'm into at the moment.  It may be sewing (and I really plan for that to be the main component of this blog), but it could also be party planning, cake-decorating, baking, cooking, parenting, music educating, etc, etc, etc (does anyone else say that with Yule Brenner's voice in their heads?).

Well, anyways, that's that.  I look forward to blogging more in the future!
